A shot of Life

I had a moment with the little ones the other day that I will treasure for the rest of my life. When I am old and grey I know I will hold onto this memory and it will give me warmth and a feeling of life and love. It was just that good.

The kids had eaten dinner and we were outside playing in the last light of the day. It had been raining on and off all day long and the air was that fresh, crisp kind that makes you want to breath in till you burst. The Bear had been busy digging and building and the Butterfly had been playing in the sandpit whilst calling out for "BUBBLES!" at random moments. I had gathered them together and we were sitting on the front steps taking off our shoes when, right before our eyes, a rainbow appeared. As I started singing the rainbow song (you know the one, "red and yellow and pink and green..." etc etc) the Butterfly leant back, rested her head against my shoulder and wrapped her little hand around mine. The Bear slid over closer, wrapped his arm around my waist, rested his head on my shoulder and in his clear sweet little voice started singing along with me.

If I could have kept on singing for the rest of my life I would have, just to keep that moment going. It was pure bliss. And then to top if all off? To make it a real gift of love and life and all things good? When we stood up to say goodbye to our rainbow we saw that it was actually a double rainbow, and it looked like it ended slam bang in the middle of our roof. You know how they say rainbows have a pot of gold at the end of them? Don't believe it for a second - this one had something eternally more precious.

It's not a great photo but I quickly snapped a pic of the rainbow, just so I could always have it. Was it the words most beautiful rainbow? Nope. Was it the biggest? Na-ha. Was it the most precious one I've ever seen, thanks to the little ones around me? Hell Yes.
